Short Dramas Shorts Full Episodes A Closer Look

ReelShort: What Is It?

ReelShort is a streaming service meant for the phone rather than the living room. Its vertical series get shot in a 9:16 frame, its episodes run one to two minutes, and its stories stretch across dozens of parts. The format grew out of the Chinese genre known as duanju, and it is known by various names, including short drama, microdrama and vertical drama. The plain answer to what is ReelShort, or what is ReelShort app specifically, is that it ranks as one of the largest English-language services in that format. The stories lean on tried-and-tested hooks such as billionaire romance, hidden identities, contract marriages, revenge and werewolf sagas. The cliffhanger that closes nearly every episode is no accident, short drama app since the next episode is often the one you are asked to pay for. In the first quarter of 2026, Sensor Tower figures put ReelShort’s in-app revenue even with DramaBox, the category leader.

Who Runs ReelShort?

Crazy Maple Studio, located in Sunnyvale, California, is the ReelShort company. The studio is backed by COL Group, a China-based company. Since Crazy Maple also makes Chapters, an interactive-story app, ReelShort was built by a team already selling serialized romance to readers on their phones. The app went live in August 2022, and the Google Play listing showing August 10 and the App Store listing dated August 24. On the App Store the seller is New Leaf Publishing, Inc., on Google Play the developer appears as NewLeaf Publishing, and the website footer lists Crazy Maple Studio, Inc. Some users are puzzled by that mismatch, but the names belong to the same operation. The TIME100 Most Influential Companies list for 2024 also featured Crazy Maple Studio.

How Does ReelShort Work in Practice?

Once it is on your phone, how does ReelShort work? You pay nothing to download the app, and every series opens with free episodes before a paywall appears. ReelShort’s own blog says the free stretch is usually the first 5 to 15 episodes, while TheWrap reported in 2024 that the first eight were free. After that, episodes are unlocked with coins, and the official blog pegs the standard price of an episode at about 60 coins. You can buy coins, or you can earn them by viewing ads, checking in daily and completing official social-media tasks. The blog says that a single rewarded ad unlocks two premium episodes, while a seven-day check-in streak brings in 100 or more coins. Earned reward coins usually expire, but purchased coins do not.

What Do Coins and VIP Passes Cost?

Viewers who would rather not count coins can buy a VIP subscription instead. The US App Store listing, as of September 2026, displays a weekly auto-renewing subscription at about $19.99 plus one-time purchases from $4.99 to $29.99. The official blog lists 500 coins for $4.99 and a yearly VIP pass at $199.99. The monthly tier is best regarded as unconfirmed, because it shows up at different prices on different official pages. Prices vary by country, platform and promotion. Cancelling has to happen in App Store or Google Play settings, as deleting the app does not cancel the weekly pass.

Is There an Official ReelShort Website?

Yes: the ReelShort website, reelshort.com, lets you watch in a browser without installing anything. Your viewing progress carries over across devices, and you can sign in with Google, Facebook, Apple, TikTok or an email address. You can start a series on your phone and pick it up on a laptop later without looking for the right episode. There is one notable catch, though. Free unlocks work only in the app, according to what series pages on the site say, so the ad and check-in routes are limited to the mobile version. ReelShort also maintains official channels on YouTube, TikTok and Dailymotion. According to its own guide, web addresses with misspellings or unofficial suffixes belong to pirate sites, so a lookalike domain offering every episode free is not a shortcut worth taking.

Does ReelShort Have a TV App?

Plenty of people search for ReelShort TV, reel short tv or simply reel tv, expecting an app for the living room. As of September 2026, our checks turned up no official ReelShort app for smart TVs, Roku or Apple TV. Although the App Store listing covers iPhone, iPad, Mac computers with Apple silicon and Apple Vision Pro, it includes no Apple TV version. The Android app counts more than 100 million Google Play installs, yet we found no official TV version of it either. When someone asks what is ReelShort TV, then, the phrase usually means the service itself, not a separate product. The Mac app or reelshort.com in a desktop browser are the practical big-screen choices. Be careful with apps whose names mix “reel”, “short” and “TV”, because several unrelated drama apps use near-identical branding. An Android app called ReelBox, for example, has no connection to ReelShort.

Is “Real Short” Really the Same App?

In practice, the answer is yes. We found no app actually called Real Short, and searches for “real short” or “realshort” are misspellings of ReelShort. App stores and web results can still turn up lookalikes, even though search engines tend to correct the spelling. The safe rule is to trust only reelshort.com, the store listings released by New Leaf Publishing and the company’s official social accounts. ReelShort itself regards misspelled web addresses as a sign of piracy, and that makes for a useful test when a result looks slightly off. The same caution applies to anything promising unlimited coins, whether a modded APK or a so-called coin generator. Those tools are unofficial, and they place your account and device at risk.

How Large Has ReelShort Grown?

ReelShort’s breakout came in November 2023, when it climbed to number two among all US apps and number one in Entertainment for about four days. TechCrunch then reported 11 million lifetime downloads, $22 million in net revenue since launch and a one-day record of 326,000 installs. In October 2024, TheWrap said that September 2024 saw $40 million in revenue and 50 million monthly active users. About 75% of users were women, and roughly half were in the US. Media Partners Asia pegs revenue at $97 million in 2023, $400 million in 2024 and $785 million in 2025. For 2026, MPA forecasts $1.05 billion in revenue and about $40 million in net profit, with roughly 29% of the microdrama market outside China. Sensor Tower put in-app revenue in the first quarter of 2025 at $130 million and in the first quarter of 2026 at about $140 million. These are analyst estimates, not company-reported results.

Which ReelShort Movies Are Best Known?

Fans often call the series ReelShort movies, since a full story watched in one sitting can run as long as a feature film. The Double Life of My Billionaire Husband, which reelshort.com lists at 60 episodes, is the title most closely linked to the app’s rise. It went viral in November 2023 alongside Fated to My Forbidden Alpha. Married at First Sight, a contract-marriage story, runs to roughly 90 episodes on the site. Werewolf and Luna stories make up a major category, with True Luna and Fated to the Alpha among the familiar names. Further titles include Never Divorce a Secret Billionaire Heiress, Love on the Sidelines, Breaking the Ice and Bound by Honor, a mafia arranged-marriage adaptation that premiered in November 2025. AI-generated animated motion comics like The Lost Heir are now also part of the catalog.
